N4 Japanese Reading Practice: Library Seat

This free JLPT N4 reading practice follows a short library scene: a neighbor starts talking, the narrator steps outside, then returns to the seat. Use furigana if you need it, check the notes, then generate more everyday passages in Yomigi.

図書館の席

図書館としょかんほんんでいたら、となりの人がちいさなこえはなはじめました。みにくくなって、一度いちどそとました。かぜ気持きもちよかったので、すこあるいてから、またせきもどりました。

図書館で本を読んでいたら、となりの人が小さな声で話し始めました。読みにくくなって、一度外に出ました。風が気持ちよかったので、少し歩いてから、また席に戻りました。

In English. While reading in the library, the person next to the narrator starts talking in a small voice. The page becomes hard to follow, so they step outside. The wind feels good, they walk a little, then return to the seat.

Key vocabulary

Grammar notes

  • 〜ていたら for “while / when”

読んでいたら sets a background action. The neighbor’s talking interrupts that ongoing reading.

  • 〜にくい

読みにくくなって means the reading became difficult—here because of the nearby voice, not because the book got harder.

  • ので for a soft reason

気持ちよかったので explains why they walked a little before going back to the seat.

Comprehension

What was the narrator doing at first?

Reading a book in the library.

Why did they go outside?

The person next to them started talking, and the book became hard to read.

What did they do before returning?

They walked a little because the wind felt pleasant.

Why this level

  • Everyday sequence with a mild interruption—typical N4 stretch past N5 fact lists.
  • Uses 〜ていたら, 〜にくい, and ので without nested workplace nuance.
  • Vocabulary stays concrete (library, voice, wind, seat).
